Germany requires an apostille

There is no treaty between Ukraine and Germany that waives legalisation, so Ukrainian public documents for German authorities need an apostille. Which body places it depends on the document:

An apostille goes only on an original with no lamination or corrections. We check older documents before submitting them — if one cannot be apostilled, we obtain a duplicate certificate.

Translation: often by a sworn translator in Germany

To be straightforward with you: many German authorities — the Standesamt, the Ausländerbehörde, diploma recognition bodies — accept only a translation by a translator sworn in Germany (beeidigter Übersetzer). A translation certified by a Ukrainian notary may be refused. So check the requirement with your authority first. If a sworn translator in Germany is needed, we prepare the originals with apostilles and you have them translated there — that way you do not pay for a translation twice. If your authority accepts a translation from Ukraine, we translate into German and have it notarized.

What people come to us with

Marriage in Germany

The Standesamt gives you its own list. It usually includes a birth certificate with an apostille — often a duplicate — and proof that any previous marriage was dissolved. We go through your list and tell you exactly what to obtain.

Diploma recognition

The diploma and supplement with the Ministry of Education apostille. If your surname is written in Russian in the document, the Ministry will not apostille it — we check this in advance.

Residence permit and children

Children’s birth certificates and the marriage certificate — with the Ministry of Justice apostille, as duplicates if needed.

Pension and work history

To count your years of work in Ukraine, the German pension authority asks for the employment record book or a statement from the Pension Fund register.

Police clearance certificate

For work, a residence permit or naturalisation. We obtain it without you travelling, with the Ministry of Internal Affairs apostille.

Old or laminated certificate

It cannot be apostilled. We obtain a duplicate certificate with an apostille — 7,200 UAH, 2–2.5 weeks.

A client’s review (translated from Russian): “I was collecting documents to marry in Germany and got lost in the Standesamt’s list. Global Lingo Group sorted out free of charge what exactly was needed and what to apostille… The Standesamt accepted everything without questions.” — Alla Rees, Google

Frequently asked questions

Do Ukrainian documents need an apostille for Germany?

Yes. No treaty between Ukraine and Germany waives it, so public documents are submitted with an apostille. The Ministry of Justice apostilles civil registry certificates, the Ministry of Education apostilles educational documents, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs apostilles police clearance certificates.

Will a translation made in Ukraine be accepted in Germany?

It depends on the authority. Many require a translation by a sworn translator in Germany. Check this before ordering a translation — the apostille is placed in Ukraine either way, and we will obtain it.

My certificate is an old format or laminated. What now?

Get a duplicate certificate with an apostille: 7,200 UAH, 2–2.5 weeks, no travel needed. You keep your original.

How long does it take?

A Ministry of Justice apostille takes about two weeks, a duplicate certificate with an apostille 2–2.5 weeks. Then delivery to Germany by Nova Poshta.

Do I have to travel to Ukraine?

No. We obtain duplicate certificates and police clearance without you. If an apostille is needed on a document you already have, send it by Nova Poshta — we return it the same way.
